The Stallion show 2012.

It is on again soon, the hengstenkeuring show (Stallion show) in Leeuwarden, the capital of Friesland in the Netherlands. It starts on 1 pm on Thursday 12 January with the  young foalbook stallions that passed the first round of judging back in November being judged. If they pass this judgement they progress to the 3rd round on Friday. If they pass this round they are eligible to go to the Central testing (70 day performance test).  Friday is also the day of the clinics, with some welknown presenters such Adelinde Cornelissen, European dressage champion. A number of meetings will be held such as the WFHO (World Friesian Horse Organisation) and the foreign societies regional meeting as many foreign delegates are usually present at the show.

Friday night is show night. Many of the studbook stallions will present their strengths as well as some other show elements will be incorporated.

On Saturday is the day that the approved stallion are inspected and classified. The judging is done in age groups and each group has a champion. Out of these champions the best performing stallion is awarded overall champion of the stallionshow. When it comes to the last 4, the tension among the 8,500 spectators is electric and when the champion is named, a wall of sound erupts!

While some of our Australian and New Zealand members will attend, the next best option is to follow it live on the internet, by going to the website of the Friesian Regional Broadcasting channel www.omroplive.nl.

ANZFHS display at Equitana

The ANZFHS had a very successful exhibition  at Equitana in Sydney in the breeding village on the Sydney Showground from 10-13 November. The horses, Django, Metsje, Hotse and Cibrichje participated in the daily parades in the Regupol stadium and gave displays in the indoor arena.  People queued to get close to our horses and be photographed with them. We shanded out more than 300 info leaflets and postcards and sold lots of merchandise such as singlets, T-shirts, poloshirts, caps, bags, badges, stickers, mouse mats, fridge magnets and stubby holders.

The ANZFHS thanks the horse owners, grooms and handlers as well as all volunteers that talked to people and explained the virtues of our breed! For more photos and videos, please go to our facebookpage!

Breeding permit renewals PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 19 June 2011 21:23

The ANZFHS has received a confirmation from the KFPS that the breeding permits for all foalbook stallions with a permit for last season have been renewed. The current number of stallion in Australia with a permit is nine, and one stallion has a permit in New Zealand. The stallions are listed on this site under the "stallions" menu item.

Members that are planning now or in the longer term to apply for a permit for a stallion that does not currently have a permit are strongly advised to contact the ANZFHS to become familiar with the conditions and procedures to obtain a permit. If members plan to import a foalbook stallion with the purpose of standing the stallion at stud, also need to contact the ANZFHS first. Obtaining a breeding permit is far from an "automatic" exercise. Semen testing, skeletal X-raying, DNA testing and a evidence of performance is required. The stallion has to be a ster stallion, have been through 2 rounds of judging in the stallion keuring and successfully completed an IBOP test or equivalent (ABFP or central testing).
